History

Great Basin was founded in 2003 by Dr. David Ward, then at Yale University, and Dr. Anthony R. Torres of Utah State University.

In his lab at Yale, Dr. Ward developed a novel approach to enhancing the signal strength of a molecular assay. Recognizing the value of a low-cost, highly sensitive molecular assay, Dr. Ward founded Great Basin to develop commercial assays utilizing his enhanced detection technology.

The future? Based on our core molecular diagnostics technology, and leveraging technology we have developed or licensed Great Basin Scientific is developing moderately complex molecular solutions to the point of care, resulting in reduced treatment cost and improved clinical outcomes for all patients.
